SVP Finance, Financial Reporting, Accounting & Operations

Our Client, a large financial services company is looking to retain a SVP Finance – Financial Reporting, Accounting & Operations (“SVP”). Located in Downtown Montreal our Client is offering an exceptional compensation package, including very competitive base salary, and both short-term and long term incentive compensation and performance bonus. The Client has a comprehensive medical and other benefits, pension plan benefits and covers all professional expenses.


With a significant recent expansion achieved in Canada and the US, our Client is looking for Canadian leadership experience and structure that will manage the expanding international investment environment. The SVP will lead a large team (40+) of finance professionals to accurately and timely report all financial operations and ensure the company's financial health. The SVP will report directly to the CFO and will be a key member of the management team.

Their main responsibilities will include:

• Directing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls (including recommendations for improvements) and overseeing financial systems implementations and upgrades
• Responsibility to continue to scale and build the entire accounting function across operating hubs in Canada, the US and Europe, including: Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting and finance staff
• Providing strategic management of the accounting and finance functions
• Managing or overseeing the relationship with independent auditors
• Collaborating with CTO, HR on technology decisions
• Help in management of Corporate Governance

People, Teams and Stakeholders:

● Recruit, retain, train, supervise, evaluate and oversee all accounting team members
● Act as a liaison to outside auditors, including management of the annual audit plan across all management company operating entities as well as managed funds
● Serve as the reporting lead for accounting teams of the firm’s various, international operating entities
● Represent the accounting department at board meetings and with other key stakeholders

Reporting & Systems:

● Manage: Accounting Policy, Consolidations, Corporate Accounting, Process & Controls, Financial Systems, Fund Accounting and Tax
● Prepare, manage and present monthly, quarterly and annual reports
● Guide larger, cross-divisional teams outside of direct span of control within Client
● Optimize the organization’s control environment, including process documentation, testing and reporting thereof
● Regularly examine financial statements and ensure they are accurate and free of any errors
● Oversee the month-end, quarter-end as well as year-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies

Strategy & Profitability:

● Serve as a strategic business partner to various commercial stakeholders across Client and support strategic and growth aspirations
● Lead effort for implementation of the function’s next generation accounting software, including ERP system and database
● Create short and long-term plans to scale the entire accounting functions within a rapidly growing firm
● Analyze accounts and suggest improvements to reduce costs and increase profits
● Make sure all financial data adheres to current tax laws and regulations

Desired Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
● CPA Certification
● 15+ years experience in a senior accounting position
● Experience in scaling accounting functions
● Advanced knowledge of professional accounting and database software, including implementation
● Experience in asset management, including highly structured and complex legal, financial and tax structures
● Extensive business experience and strategic knowledge
● Excellent financial and analytical abilities
● Outstanding written and oral communication skills
